This game holds VERY true to the original content. The first part is a quick storyline update taking Riko and Reg to the bottom of the Second Layer. The main content is a new storyline starting shortly after Riko and Reg's departure. You will explore all areas of each layer of the Abyss, more than the anime shows (down to Layer 5). This game will have you experience the true difficulty of navigating the Abyss. With brutal death scenes and very long dives, this game will take some dedication to complete. This game is very challenging! Consider it the 'Dark Souls' of dungeon diving games!

This game is a $20 dollar bargin bin experience through and through. There are a couple good points but it's dragged down by mediocre controls, overused voice lines, awkward character models, awful item management and like The angry video game nerd says "it's a where the heck do I go kinda a game"

1. Controls
The controls are very stiff, sometimes unresponsive. It plays alike a playstation 2 game with how the characters move around. It's hard to judge how close you can get to enemies without getting hit and how far your weapon reaches. The trash dodge move is almost worthless

2. Over used voice lines
One of the most annoying things about this game is when your actually playing the game reg and riko and others will replay the same voice lines over and over and over again like a broken Record. For instance Reg will say "riko, are you ready to go?" Riko will say soemthing the lines of "of course I am". NOT 15 SECONDS LATER This voice line will play again. Reg will say "I've sensed something" this will also play 2-3 times in under 30 seconds of gameplay. It got so bad I actually had to turn off the voice over for this game. It sucks because the original anime voice actors do reprised their roles for this game.

3. Awkward character models
I've watched the anime and read about halfway though the manga so I like to think I got how these character are supposed to look. These model looks like dolls with 1 or 2 facial expressions. When talking they might do a few hand movments and poses but that's about it. Also some of the character body proportions are out of whack with thin arms and faces that look like they where stung by bees.

4. Item management. WHY CANT I EAT FOOD FROM THE ITEM MENU!!??. In the game there are 3 bars you need to watch. Health, Hunger, Stamina. Health is just that. Hunger depletes during normal gameplay and Stamina is required for running/climbing etc. When hunger is low you need to eat items to do with you need to either find items in the world, eat them raw or cook them into a dish. To eat a dish these are the step inorder to do so.
1. pause game
2. Go to craft menu/meal
3. Select meal
4. After meal is made scroll back to items
5. Select meal and equip it to your quick item select wheel (meals of the same type stack)
6. Unpause game
7. open quick item Select wheel and select meal
8. Press button to eat meal
9. Watch 5 second animation of character eating meal
-repeat-
WHY CANT I JUST EAT THE MEAL FROM THE ITEM MENU INSTEAD OF EQUIPING IT AND WASTING 30 SECONDS WATCHING MY CHARACTER SCARF DOWN 5 PLATES OF BIRD MEAT?

5. where the heck do I go?
Not I get it some people like being able to explore at their own pace and not have an arrow point where they need to go. This game puts you in an area with a marker on your map telling "go here X marks the spot" what's bad about it is in the area it might be on a higher or lower layer and the map doesn't show that clearly. So you'll be running around longer than you need to trying to find a wall you can climb or a tree root you can uses as a rappelling point. Also most of the areas on the map look like labyrinth. Multiple branching pathways and exit points that go who knows where. Again, the map doesn't say until you've used that exit point.

I've also noticed the game doesn't explain what some items are for. You can only carry so much equipment before your character gets over encumbered and can't walk or run. So you'll be carrying a bunch of stuff you'll not want to discard because you might think you'll need them later.

The good
The main story does follow Reg and Rikos seasons 1 story pretty well. (Aswell as a $20 game can) most story cutscenes play out like persona 5's but with 3d models.

The soundtrack is actually pretty good and fits the games atmosphere

Riko and your "deep abyss" character have a torch on their helmet that I like to keep turning on and off

Overall in my opinion if you like made in abyss try and get this game for cheap like a sale or something. It's a somewhat fun little romp around the world of made in abyss. It needed to be better since As far as I know this is made in abyss's first game and it doesn't do the story or the atmospshere of the anime and manga justice.
