A broken artist. A remote island. A perfect place to heal. Or is it?

Claudia, a doctoral candidate in music composition, is crippled by severe anxiety and self-doubt. Her career lies in shambles before it has even begun, and she has lost all motivation to fight for her success. She seeks refuge at an artist retreat on the secluded Watershed Island, but solitude and inspiration prove elusive as fellow retreat participants—a writer, a painter, and an opera singer—begin to encroach on her personal space, and a turbulent sequence of events pushes Claudia over the edge.

In a parallel story, in 1960s New York, a dedicated homemaker lives alongside her famous composer husband, who has been commissioned to write the inaugural opera for the new Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center. When, at the height of his career, an unexpected catastrophe threatens to destroy his moment of triumph, she steps in to ensure his success—no matter the long-term ethical or personal consequences.

In this psychological thriller, both women’s worlds unravel and both are forced to confront their new realities. Their stories, separated by decades, merge unexpectedly, urging Claudia to redefine her relationship to her own art and to search for her most authentic self.

5,0 su 5 stelle Beautifully Written Novel
Recensito negli Stati Uniti il 24 gennaio 2022
The Flow is a beautifully written novel which delves upon the psyche of the main characters – Claudia, a struggling composer, and three other artists – and how they interact and influence one another while staying together on a secluded island. The story ‘flows’ very well. The scenes are vividly described – rich in detail and imagery. I felt as if I were there. I especially enjoyed the paralleling of another composer at an earlier time. This leads to many twists and turns with a suspenseful ending. The author obviously draws upon her vast knowledge and experience as a gifted musician and composer. Overall, it is very interesting and insightful.

5,0 su 5 stelle Beautiful and riveting story!
Recensito negli Stati Uniti il 21 dicembre 2019
This is a captivating, beautiful story about an artist who is figuring herself out in the world. She has to fight to be heard, noticed and understood, all while keeping her own voice and not compromising it with the waves of shifting trends. Considering that the author is also a composer and painter with first-hand knowledge of how things work “behind the scenes”, the story feels very personal, a view into the author’s soul.
The main character Claudia stands her own while fighting insecurities and overcoming her various inner struggles. Readers begin to understand the pressures and difficulties that artists face and some of the moral decisions that may be a part of their daily life.
But the book is more than that. Set in the enchanted scenery of an isolated island, this beautiful story features intriguing character development as it leads the reader into the world of music, nature, and ultimately into the inner world where one begins to doubt the reality of all.

2,0 su 5 stelle Not as good as hoped
Recensito negli Stati Uniti il 12 aprile 2020
The description sounds good, and the very few reviews were positive so I took a chance... I'm an artist and always like to read books about creative challenges and art history. As short as it is, and with large type as well, I still had to struggle to finish. Many sentences that were trying to be lyrical put me to sleep. I kept thinking that it was my sleeping pills and decided to just get through it one afternoon here in isolation. It still didn't appeal - no sense of the age of the main character, not any real character development or back story. The other characters were irritating and you never really understood if this was all in her mind or if they even existed. The twist at the end was minor, but not even interesting. And the ending? Nothing, just another boring sentence. Disappointing for me.

4,0 su 5 stelle Especially interesting if you are a musician or composer
Recensito negli Stati Uniti il 7 dicembre 2019
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I was fascinated by the music references and descriptions. As well, the vivid descriptions of the main characters psychological challenges were interesting. I liked the surprising plot twist and found the reading level pleasurable. I read it in two days.
