Not having much experience as a reader of romantic fiction, I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. But I had read something about the author, Andrea Hicks, and was curious. I was solidly "into" the book by the end of the first chapter, and I became more and more impressed by it as I read on. This is a novel that examines important and deeply emotional issues such as the meaning of "family," the strength of bonds between friends, and how difficult it can be to put the needs of someone you love before your own. The characters have depth, the dialog is great. The descriptions of setting are very vivid, and the location of much of the action in Bosnia is both unique and educational. The author either has a personal familiarity with the country or her research was excellent. I found the plot to be fast-paced and yet the author took time to really delve into the characters' thoughts and feelings. They are portrayed so authentically and touchingly that the reader can't help but care about them. The writing is superb. I would recommend this book highly for readers who enjoy not only great romantic fiction but simply great fiction!

A touching story which follows the main character, looking to find his place in world of both love and family connections, including the girl with the red scarf. With a twist in the heart of the story, it kept me reading to find out what happened next. A great read if you want to relax and let Andrea Hicks take you on an intriguing, yet heart warming journey.
Would recommend.
