When the six sister-witches stole the DragonQueen's jewels of power, they banished the dragons from their home in the land of Tulay. Before the dragons left, they took with them a human child as hostage. Tia has been raised by the dragons and considers them her family. She is appalled to learn that her own human mother is one of the sister-witches who are now the despotic rulers of Tulay. Tia decides she will prove herself to be a true DragonChild by retrieving the jewels, with the aid of her DragonBrother Finn.

In this first exciting adventure, Tia goes after the jewel that gives its possessor the power to control beasts. The second story, The Opal Quest, is published in March 2013.

I bought The Emerald Quest for my seven year old god-daughter and read it to her when she came to stay for a weekend. She was captivated and I really enjoyed reading it too.
It is beautifully written and the author is not afraid of occasionally using words that younger children may not be familiar with. It is really refreshing to find a children's book that is not dumbed down, (I'm thinking Rainbow Magic, Beast Quest and the magic puppy/kitten/fairy series here) has a great story and would appeal to both boys and girls.
The Emerald Quest is a tale of dragons, witches and a child having an adventure. What more could you want?
I'm so pleased that there are going to be a series of Dragon Child books and my god-daughter is looking forward to finding out what Tia will get up to next.

The Dragonchild follows the exciting adventures of Tia as she encounters danger in her quest for the jewels.
It is beautifully written and has a terrific page turning quality that has young readers wanting to read on. It stretches the readers vocabulary and their imagination by bringing the mystical world of Tulay to life.
My 6½ yr old advanced reader absolutely loved it and devoured it within a few days. We are now counting down to the release of Book 2!
Definitely recommended for 6+ Boys and Girls.

I bought this book on a whim for my neice's birthday. When it arrived I couldn't help but have a sneaky peek myself and ended up reading the whole book. It is an enchanting tale about witches and dragons beautifully written with delightful illustrations throughout. It is a real treasure to own and such a treat to find a well written book for that age range. And my neice? She's over the moon with it and can't wait for the Opal Quest to be published.

I met the author by chance on a bus and she wrote down the name of this book on a scrap of paper. I am delighted that I ordered it. It has just the right balance of fantasy and realism. It also carries some thought-provoking parallels with real-life issues, presented in a clear way. These can be noticed and discussed, or not noticed or discussed, as is suitable for any particular child or family.
