Enjoyed reading how Josh and the rural county deputies worked to solve the crime, despite the DEA and others. I liked the way Josh dusted off his law enforcement skills, ones he'd hoped to leave behind. It wasn't a straight forward path, with personal and professional pitfalls to overcome, all of which kept me reading to the end.

Not exactly like Weldy's novel Outlaws, being a different story and not a re-run. Just as good, even better.

MURDER IN THE HILLS brings Josh Grant from William Weldy’s first book in the series, OUTLAWS, right back to work as a police detective, a job he left behind when he traded Detroit for the country.

This fast-paced, engaging read begins when an unidentified body is found at the bottom of a cliff. Josh and his sidekick follow the trail from Boise to Las Vegas, somehow balancing commitment to family with solving a crime that keeps expanding its jurisdictions. Well-written, at times with edgy humor, this police procedural takes the reader behind the scenes with a ring of authenticity.

I enjoyed reading MURDER IN THE HILLS (a 4.5 ranking), and look forward to Weldy’s next tale about these characters, their friendships, and their commitment to crime-solving.

When I ordered the book (I very much enjoy the author's writing) I didn't know it was a "sequel" to "Outlaws". William again delivered an entertaining and well-written tale. Very fun reading!!

His characters are easy to read. By that I mean you can feel the anger or joy that the author puts into his creations and he knows what he is writing about. The story flows and the book is difficult to lay aside and I am looking forward to many more of his novels.
