One of the last great Ocean adventures. Today satellites assure the mariner that he can not hide in the vast empty oceans of the World. Then it was different, and the Commerce Raider Atlantis story is one of courage, guile, stealth and humanity at war on the world's oceans. Led by a Master Mariner the ship and its crew accomplished their mission. The Master and Crew also returned home safely.

"Atlantis" is a very famous ship, equally famous for it's chivalry on the high seas not usually associated with Nazi Germany. This was a fascinating read because it was written by an officer from Atlantis. I didn't find it apologetic, or revisionist (a concern), and certainly appreciated knowing the full story of a very famous ship I'd only heard of but knew little! Truth is more amazing than Fiction!

An excellent account of one of the most successful surface raiders of WW2. Told from the German perspective, but showng their successes and failures, in. a candid account of the early part of WW2.

Great for students of naval warfare or those looking for a story of human interest.

Ship16とはドイツ海軍のコードネームで第２次大戦初期に通商破壊活動を行った仮装巡洋艦アトランティスのことです。南大西洋やインド洋で、ソ連や日本（香椎丸）などの中立国の船に偽装しイギリスやその同盟国の貨物船やタンカーなどを２２隻撃沈、拿捕しました。この本はfirst officerである Ulrich Mohrによって書かれています。船長のRoggeによって書かた German Raider "Atlantis" もありますが現在手に入りにくいようで、この本は貴重です。1940年11月の13 隻目に撃沈したイギリス貨物船Automedonからシンガポール要塞の機密書類を手に入れ、日本から感謝の軍刀がロッゲに送られました。シンガポール陥落の数週後のことでした。Uボートと違い、できるだけ船員や乗客を助けて中には戦後まで友情が続いたイギリスの船長もいます。そのため海洋冒険譚のような話の雰囲気もします。

I've read other books about Atlantis, but never a first person account. It always provides an exciting difference in opinion to see the Germans themselves justify some of the events. This isn't an operational history, but the personal stories are what really sets this apart from other books
