Uno dei migliori film Fantascienza/Azione mai creati a mio parere, veramente con una storia eccezionale che si tiene su proprio bene, buoni effetti speciali, combattimenti e tanto altro.Da vedere anche i suoi 2 seguiti merita assolutamente questa saga.La Steelbook all'esterno è proprio bella con delle stupende immagini e di ottimo materiale. Qui non è presente nessun cartoncino con la trama e le descrizioni del disco, sono infatti stampate sul retro.L’interno mi ha deluso, Solo un’immagine in bianco e nero a malapena visibile sulla parte sinistra della custodia. Poi è tutto spazio vuoto, senza niente, già quella li con i super soldati raffigurati è piccola copre poco.Però per un collezionista è da avere assolutamente, anche se vi sconsiglio di acquistarla a prezzi eccessivi come 30 o 40€, perché non ne vale nemmeno la metà.Alla fine è tutta plastica e metallo non materiali pregiati o altro, se ne approfittano troppo.Ecco alcune foto di questa metalbox.

Da vedere anche i suoi 2 seguiti merita assolutamente questa saga.

La Steelbook all'esterno è proprio bella con delle stupende immagini e di ottimo materiale. Qui non è presente nessun cartoncino con la trama e le descrizioni del disco, sono infatti stampate sul retro.
L’interno mi ha deluso, Solo un’immagine in bianco e nero a malapena visibile sulla parte sinistra della custodia. Poi è tutto spazio vuoto, senza niente, già quella li con i super soldati raffigurati è piccola copre poco.

Però per un collezionista è da avere assolutamente, anche se vi sconsiglio di acquistarla a prezzi eccessivi come 30 o 40€, perché non ne vale nemmeno la metà.
Alla fine è tutta plastica e metallo non materiali pregiati o altro, se ne approfittano troppo.

"Universal Soldier" was released theatrically back on July 10, 1992 grossing $95 million worldwide against a production budget of $23 million. It was directed by Roland Emmerich and featured a script which was rewritten by his frequent collaborator Dean Devlin. The cast featured Jean-Claude Van Damme & Dolph Lundgren as two U.S. Army soldiers who die in the Vietnam War but are brought back to life with enhanced abilities as part of military's secret Universal Soldier program. Ally Walker, Ed O'Ross and Jerry Orbach round out the supporting cast. Critically were not too kind to the film at the time of its original theatrical release calling it a Terminator 2 knockoff that didn't being any new ideas to the action film genre at the time. I saw the film during its original theatrical run and while I can admit it is far from a great film, it knows exactly what it is and is a great deal of fun. Everybody involved making it also realized how ridiculous the entire premise was and therefore kept their creative tongues just the right amount in cheek which also makes the film quite funny at various points too. While "Universal Soldier" would go on to get 2 terrible television movies in 1998 "Universal Soldier II: Brothers in Arms" & "Universal Soldier III: Unfinished Business" followed by a true theatrical sequel in 1999 "Universal Soldier: The Return" (which is true schlock) & most recently two surprisingly good direct-to-video sequels in the form of "Universal Soldier: Regeneration" in 2009 & the brutal (especially in its uncut form) "Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning" from 2012. The original film from 1992 though is still a big guilty pleasure of mine and has amassed a sizeable cult following over the years.

Lionsgate brought the first "Universal Soldier" to 4K UHD blu-ray in style back in late 2019. The film is presented on a triple layer 100gb disc in its original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1 and featuring both HDR10 & Dolby Vision grading. For the purpose of this review, I viewed the Dolby Vision encode. Featuring a bit rate usually hovering in the low to mid 80's and featuring a new 4K scan from the original camera negative, "Universal Soldier" looks positively amazing on this release. Detail is greatly improved and color saturation looking much more natural over the old blu-ray from many years again. While the film features a lot of neutral tan and grey colors, the Dolby Vision HDR still manages to being out a ton of nice visual nuances in the film that probably looks overall even better than it did originally in theaters. Explosions in particular really pop. The included standard blu-ray with this release also is from the same 4K scan and while looking very nice in its own right, is naturally lacking in the detail & color departments compared to the 4K disc. Fans of the film will be amazed at how fantastic the film looks in true 4K. It is truly like seeing the film again for the first time in my opinion.

Audio wise we get the same DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 mix as the old blu-ray, it was a nice sounding audio track way back then and still sounds good today. While this film could have benefited greatly from a Dolby Atmos object based surround track, the original track 5.1 lossless track still does the job admirably. While Dolby Atmos fans will possibly be disappointed in this respect, the massive improvement of visuals on the 4K UHD disc more than makes up for it in my opinion.

No new extras are included on this release with all of the old DVD & blu-ray extras being ported to both the 4K UHD disc and the standard blu-ray as follows:

"Universal Soldier" remains a fun and intentionally silly bit of early 90's action filmmaking. The film looks amazing on 4K UHD blu-ray and is a huge step up visually over the ancient blu-ray. While the lack of a Dolby Atmos audio track could be viewed as a disappointment by some, the huge upgrades visually make it still a worthwhile upgrade for 4K UHD enthusiasts. Highly recommend!

Dès le début, cela démarre tambour battant, la situation est posée dès les premières minutes, les personnages sont présentés dans un flashback, qui nous ramène ensuite à la situation présente. Le scénario s’avère original, les scènes d’action sont très spectaculaires et vraiment efficaces, les effets spéciaux sont bien réalisés. Le duo star mené par les action man Jean-Claude VAN DAMME et Dolph LUNDGREN assure la performance.
1969. Guerre du Vietnam. Alors qu’un soldat américain, Andrew Scott, massacre des civils par pur sadisme, son compatriote Luc Devereaux décide de l’arrêter, ils s’entretuent.
1992. Afin de résoudre une prise d’otages, une unité d’élite anti-terrorisme appelé UNISOL est déployée. Parmi les hommes qui composent l’équipe, on retrouve Luc Devereaux et Andrew Scott. Décédés, leurs corps ont été réanimés, sans souvenirs de leur vie passé, drogués pour obéir aux ordres et n’avoir aucun sentiment. Suite à leur exploit, la journaliste Veronica Roberts réussit à entrer dans leur base et découvre la terrible réalité sur le programme. Considérée comme une menace, elle est traquée par les UNISOL. Contre toute attente, Luc Devereaux retrouve sa conscience ainsi qu’une partie de sa mémoire et lui sauve la vie, ils s’enfuient ensemble. Ils sont alors pris en chasse par une escouade, avec Andrew Scott à leur tête.
Si vous aimez les films d’action, vous allez être servis. Il est explosif, dans tous les sens du terme. Le réalisateur Roland EMMERICH signe ici son premier film américain, et c’est un baptême du feu très réussi. Bien ancré dans les années 90 (sorti en salles en 1992), ce film qui affiche 25 ans au compteur, n’a pas pris une ride, le rythme est rapide tout le long du métrage, il ne faiblit pas et ce jusqu’au final. Le point fort étant bien sûr l’affrontement entre les deux personnages principaux, dont l’antagonisme est constant, voire même supérieur au fur et à mesure que le film avance. Leur face à face est percutant, un vrai choc. Le tout mâtiné de SF et quelques touches d’humour bienvenues.
Jean-Claude VAN DAMME est très convaincant dans son rôle de Luc Devereaux. Soldat paré d’une conscience, il fait tout ce qui est en son pouvoir pour contrer le sadique Andrew Scott. Au terme du film, on assiste à leur ultime face à face, dans un combat magistral. L’acteur est très à l’aise dans son personnage de cyborg invincible, il est très en forme physiquement et cela se voit à l’écran à travers les nombreuses scènes d’action dont le rendu est vraiment spectaculaire.
Dolph LUNDGREN incarne Andrew Scott avec une grande efficacité. Il met toute sa puissance à personnifier ce psychopathe dont le seul plaisir est de tuer. Véritable machine de guerre que rien n’arrête, il est le parfait antagoniste que l’on adore détester. L’acteur est très impressionnant, il vole presque la vedette à JCVD. Son meilleur rôle avec celui d’Ivan Drago dans « Rocky 4 ».
Ally WALKER interprète la journaliste Veronica Roberts avec réalisme. Croyant avoir découvert le scoop de sa vie, elle se met en danger et doit fuir avec Luc Devereaux, qui lui apporte son aide. L’actrice apporte tout son talent à son personnage, elle le joue avec justesse, sans en faire trop. On la retrouvera quelques années plus tard, dans le rôle de Samantha Waters, qui lui apportera la renommée internationale dans la série « PROFILER » de 1997 à 1999, durant 3 saisons.
Côté technique, le Blu Ray offre une belle image, digne du support HD. La copie transférée est de très bonne qualité, ce qui était loin d’être gagné pour un film datant d’un quart de siècle. Mais le résultat est là. Les couleurs sont superbes. Le son lui aussi affiche un très bon rendu, il est clair et précis. La Version Française est très bonne, bien que la Version Originale soit bien plus dynamique.
Les bonus sont également présents, si vous souhaitez en savoir plus sur le tournage. Un commentaire audio avec les principaux protagonistes, informatif et distrayant, vu les nombreuses anecdotes. Un making of de 20 minutes qui livre les impressions et un regard décalé du duo star 10 ans après. Un documentaire de 15 minutes où les 2 stars racontent leur parcours. La fin alternative de 13 minutes, qui sera jugée trop sombre par la production et remplacée par la fin que l’on connait. Enfin, la bande annonce du film.
Premier opus qui lancera une franchise constituée de plusieurs autres films. Il assume pleinement son statut de film d’action visant simplement à divertir. D’ailleurs, l’humour très second degré, offrira certaines scènes en total décalage. Bluffant et fun.
