A beautiful edition with the formatting and all 162 images from the original first edition published in 1876. The cover is a Worth Brehm painting taken from a later publication. Use Amazon's Lookinside feature to compare this edition with others. You'll be impressed by the differences. Don't be fooled by other versions that have no illustrations or contain very small print. Reading our edition will make you feel that you are back on the Mississippi River with Tom and Huck. If you like our book, be sure to leave a review!

Mark Twain created the memorable characters Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn drawing from the experiences of boys he grew up with in Missouri. Set by the Mississippi River in the 1840's, it follows these boys as they get into predicament after predicament. Tom's classic whitewashing of the fence has become part of American legend, and the book paints a nostalgic picture of life in the middle of the nineteenth century. Tom runs away from home to an island in the river, chases Injun Joe and his treasure, and even gets trapped in a cave for days with Becky Thatcher. The book is one of Twain's most beloved stories.

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is the first book I've read by Mark Twain. I read The Story of a Bad Boy by Thomas Bailey Aldrich last fall to my younger boys. It's said to be the book that inspired Mark Twain to write Tom Sawyer. We all loved it and highly recommend reading it! We enjoyed it so much that I knew I wanted to read Tom Sawyer to my kids, too. I'm happy to say we all loved it, too. Tom gets himself into scrape after scrape and you just can't help, but love him as Aunt Polly would say. We're looking forward to continuing on with Huckleberry Finn next.

I read the Seawolf Press edition, one of the 100th Anniversary Collection, which has the original 160 illustrations. The illustrations are so neat and the edition is wonderfully put together using fonts that were common 100 years ago when the author passed away. I can't recommend these editions highly enough. I love facsimile editions and Seawolf Press puts out some of the best.

Statt sich die First Edition mühsam aus einer Bibliothek auszuleihen und anschließend noch mühsamer einzuscannen bzw auszudrucken oder sich für teures Geld auf dem Antiquariatsmarkt zu kaufen, bekommt man eine saubere Replik für wenig Geld ins Haus geliefert. Der Text entspricht dem Original mit allen (wenigen) kleinen Fehlerchen, und die sehr vielen Zeichnungen entsprechen dem Stil der damaligen Zeit (1876) und sind recht eindrucksvoll. Coole Ausgabe eines legendären Buches!
