Interesting but not very good
This book was ok, but her fragmented run-on sentences got to be a little irritating .
Five Stars
It was a good novel about Muslims..
a good read
This is a very beautifully written novel.
Really wanted to like it
The book is really a over simplification of everything we go through as Muslim women living in the West.
Moving and enoyable, but sometimes hard to follow
The story is about a Muslim widow falling in love with a Scottish expert on the Middle East, and her struggle between her faith and her love for him.
Deepining the Divide
Let e start by saying that Leila Aboulela's prose is just stunningly beautiful.
A matter of faith
A story of a young Sudanese widow, Sammar, working as a translator for Rae Isles, an Islamist.
"Deeper than happiness...?"
Aberdeen, Scotland and Khartoum, Sudan, cities more dissimilar than one could imagine, form the backdrop to this finely crafted, tender cross-cultural love story.
A lovely stranger in a cold, strange land
The Translator is one of the best novels I've ever read.
Saying the Shahada
This is a lyrical and compelling first novel by a talented Sudanese writer.
